I have been in the insurance industry my whole adult life, starting out as a licensed agent assisting a CLU then moving into claims, which is where I stayed. Primarily auto, some homeowner, worker’s comp and other liability-only type policy claims. Though material damage claims were sometimes part of the mix, I worked Casualty claims and the last ten years in the business was spent in SIU (Special Investigative Unit), dealing with insurance fraud. The last four years in SIU was as company manager for SIU, responsible not just for working fraud but training company employees in compliance with state regulations as related to fraud. I also obtained my Senior Claims Law Associate (SCLA) designation through the American Educational Institute, Inc. which is an exhaustive 3-year (roughly) course of study of all types of insurance and all aspects of same.
Years of working claims, investigating losses, working closely with defense counsel on many law suits, gazillions of seminars and special courses – all have given me considerable knowledge and expertise. I am sure I will come across occasionally as being a shill for insurance companies but such is not the case. Rather, I have seen the unpleasant consequences of no insurance or not enough insurance. I have also seen proper insurance coverage save people’s financial bacon. I am an insurance geek. I absolutely love insurance and get mildly dismayed that so many people “don’t get it”. I am taking this opportunity to try to change that.
